As anyone who’s recently tried to find vegetable seeds or plant starts can attest, there has been a renewed interest in edible gardening this year as people spend more time at home and try to make do with fewer grocery trips. Sustainable Ballard hopes that our annual Edible Garden Tour will inspire and inform all the budding gardeners out there!

We’ve moved the Edible Garden Tour date to Saturday, July 11, to allow for limited outdoor interaction under COVID restrictions. This 11th Edible Garden Tour will be hosted with social distancing: check in will be no-touch and garden visitors will be limited to 5 at a time. Masks are now required throughout Washington.

If you’re new to gardening, we hope that you can join us to see what other gardeners in the neighborhood are doing and get some tips! This is a fun walking or biking tour of neighborhood gardens, planting strips, containers, raised beds, chickens, and all sorts of creative edibles from fruit trees to berries to veggies galore. Plan to spend a day walking or biking through northwest Ballard to discover how your neighbors raise urban fruits and vegetables. Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions.

The tour includes more than a dozen gardens to explore within walking distance of each other in Northwest Ballard. Your $10 donation supports Sustainable Ballard’s community projects. Children 10 and under are free! Now in its 11th year, the Edible Garden Tour has been an inspiration to hundreds of gardeners every summer.
