AMERICA RECYCLED is a timely reminder of the joy (and sometimes pain) of self-sufficiency.

AMERICA RECYCLED follows brothers Tim and Noah Hussin as they bicycle 5,000 miles across the U.S. South over a period of two years, in a wildly poetic yet personally intimate experiment into scaling down, relocalizing, and connecting to community and land. On their trip, they meet squatters, small artsy communities, gay communes, and people running away from globalization and the more conventional path. Their trajectory draws a puzzle of characters showing us a different way of coping with everyday life. An adventure towards a more accessible world, highlighting the ‘local’ life and the difficulties arising from rejecting the world the way it is presented to us. It is life as thought by Henry David Thoreau, Jack Kerouac and Woody Guthrie.

Noah and Timothy Hussin experienced and make us experience the ‘other’ United States in their first feature film, financed by crowdfunding on the Internet. With only $3,290 to live on and shoot the film, they achieved the creation of a vital cinematographic experience. Benefiting from gorgeous photography, they were able to deliver a portrait without raucousness and sensationalism, in addition to a high quality, self-recorded soundtrack: natural music for a documentary that avoids preaching and moralizing about an alternative way of life.
